The Coveteur and Simone Harouche talk Winter Kate

Monday, October 31st, 2011

“What can I say? The other one (second one on the right) is Winter Kate. I love Winter Kate. Nicole’s line achieves what many brands today try to achieve but can’t. Her clothes have a bohemian aesthetic, but the pieces are totally modern and fresh. Not to mention so easy to incorporate into everyday looks. I love that it never looks like you are trying too hard when you are wearing Winter Kate. It’s effortlessly cool – exactly like the designer herself.”

It’s always nice to get a mention, especially when it comes from someone as fantastic as Simone Harouche- stylist, designer and good friend of Nicole’s. Check out the rest of the article from The Coverteur here. Thanks for the shout out Simone!

Ask Kelly: Kelly Answers Your October Questions

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Dear Kelly,

My “boyfriend” and I are not married, and have three children. I got pregnant 9 months into the relationship. The good news is, we plan on getting married in the fall. (after 6 years) the bad news is, I feel as if we have lost our former “in love” selves. We never have time to have dates, or even snuggle as the children all sleep in the bed with us EVERY Night. He plays in a band and even though practice is only one night a week, I feel that takes precedence over any date night. The worst of it is, we have sex maybe twice a month because of our schedules:( I really want time to connect with him and fall in love all over again, but $$$ and time to do it seems impossible. We are a great parenting team but I feel in the future the way things are going, that maybe be ALL we are. Any advice on how to put romance back to the relationship?

Bonita Applebum

Dear Bonita,

Get the kids out of the bed. Period! You’re not getting any romance back in the relationship with kids in your bed. Do that first and then we’ll talk.

Kelly

Dear Kelly,

After giving birth to your children, how long were you off on maternity leave, and how did you feel/cope with having to go back to work. I have 2 months left before my son heads to daycare full time and I’m back to work. I’m kind of dreading it.

Joanna

Dear Joanna,

I am lucky that I have a pretty flexible schedule & create my own hours but everyone dreads leaving their child and I completely understand how you are feeling. I can say that as much as it is difficult to balance working and being a Mom I really enjoy what I do and makes sure to make the time I do have with my kids very special. You’ll get back into the swing of things on the work front– it may just take a little time to adjust. Just remember, you’re doing the best you can!

Kelly

Dear Kelly,

TODAY, my 10 year old daughter (5th grade) was given vaccinations (Hep A and Varicella) without my consent. Long story short as I can make it. My daughter has been dealing with a sore throat since Sunday and low grade fever. Treating it as allergies (she was sneezing too), I decided to take her in today to rule out strep throat (or worse).
Here is where it goes down hill quick. I left her with my mother to attend a 1 hour staff meeting. Grandmother was able to get an appointment to see the Doctor right away. They did a strep test to find it was negative. Doctor said ALLERGIES.
THEN… Doctor said, since she is here, we will do her 10 year checkup. They ask my mother if her 10 yr. vaccinations had been given. My mother had NO idea. These vaccinations are not required, for the purpose of attending public school, until my daughter is in 7th grade (in TX).
Doctor went to the IMMTRAC website to see that the shots had not been given and took it upon herself to administer them.
My heart was broken. I was mad as hell. I feel immunizations are 100% a parents choice. I do vaccinate my children. I have a folder for each child that I have in safe keeping with their shot records that I bring with us WHEN IT’S TIME TO VACCINATE. I would never think to vaccinate when they are ill and their immune systems are low. I would also never agree to vaccinate when I could push it up for 2 years.
After freaking out on my poor mother, who was really doing me a favor, I acknowledged that I was most upset with the Doctor.
I did call the office today in hopes of speaking with the good Doctor and expressing my concerns. The staffers said that maybe, an office manager would call me tomorrow to discuss.
Quite honestly, I’m considering filing a complaint against this Doctor. The kicker is that she has kids too.
Please talk me off my ledge if I am over reacting.
Like Nicole, I was a bit of a wild child. Pregnant at 25 with my first, I became this crazy hippy mom who breastfed each kiddo for 2 years, i made my own baby food and used cloth diapers. I educated myself in Parenting101 by reading books and talking to my mommy friends. Experiences are meant for sharing & learning afterall. I’d value any feedback you would like to share-

Phew, I feel better already!
Thank you,
Celina

Hi Celina,
First of all I’m so glad you just got that off your chest and that writing about it made you feel a little better. Second I am so angry for you! As a mom, I know how protective I am of my own kids and I would be as frustrated as you are if I felt anyone was taking my power away from me. I can’t speak to the medical nature of your question but I can empathize with your reaction. I don’t think anything is going to make you feel better but I agree that you should call your doctor asap. I would even schedule an in-person meeting and tell him/her exactly how you feel and most importantly, how you want things to be handled in the future. If you’re dissatisfied with the doctor’s answer, I would say its time to find a new one whose theories and practices are more in line with your own. I know it’s not a huge consolation but I would feel somewhat better knowing that this situation would NEVER repeat itself for other moms in the practice or for you.

Nicole Richie: The Evolving Role Model

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

So many people ask me, “When did you first become a Nicole Richie fan? Why did you start your website? What is it that influences you the most about Nicole Richie?” The conclusion is simple: there is no single answer that can sum up my admiration and reason for following Nicole Richie.

In the year of 2006 on a whim, I set up a Nicole Richie based fansite on Myspace. It was a way for me to share my interests on Nicole Richie; I would never gossip, I just enjoyed to document on the latest happenings of Nicole; what she was wearing, who she was socialising with and what her latest career turn was.

Being six years younger than Nicole, she is like the older sister I never had. I looked to Nicole in her ‘wild child’ days and thought, “I’d love to be that cool.” I would imitate Nicole’s signature looks and wear oversized shades, skinny jeans paired with sky high heels and wrap a scarf around my head – although I could never get that look down! I just knew if Nicole wears it then I must, I am a true Nicole Richie follower!

Then the years came when Nicole started dating Joel and I loved how in love they looked when shopping in LA and relaxing on the beach in Mexico. I was thrilled for Nicole and could sense Joel was a rock who was taking Nicole into a completely different place and this was going to be the start of a new Nicole Richie era.

Nicole became pregnant with Harlow Spring 2007 and a growing bump lead to Nicole announcing her pregnancy on a television interview with Diane Sawyer. Nicole grew as a person during her pregnancy – she became a maternity style icon!

In the year of 2008 NrichieNew’s fanbase grew and I spread out with my own website www.nrichienews.com

During the launch of NRichieNews in 2008 Nicole was busy raising her first born child Harlow with her beau Joel. Nicole would be seen strolling out and about in Los Angeles with Harlow and I began to look to Nicole as a woman who knew what she wanted in life. Not only was she raising Harlow, Nicole was busy designing and launching her jewellery range aptly named House Of Harlow 1960, setting up The Richie-Madden Children’s foundation with Joel Madden, working alongside other charities and showcasing her acting skills on the hit TV show Chuck. Nicole proved she could multi-task and was now not only an amazing mother but also a designer, business woman and actress.

I joined Twitter in early 2009 to spread the word about NrichieNews.Com. Nicole Richie joined Twitter in April 2009 and sent me a tweet “I’m now following you.” I was in awe. I had been writing about Nicole for a long time she was almost a fictional perfect role model; this cemented the foundations of my work – Nicole Richie knew NRichieNews existed and she appreciated my work!

During 2009 my website followers increased and I gained an impressive 10,000 followers on Twitter (which is growing daily!) due to the surprise following from Nicole herself.

I had the honour of chatting to Nicole on Twitter and asking her questions which I never dreamt possible– her beauty regime, pregnancy cravings and my ultimate question when will she be visiting the UK – to which Nicole told me she would be visiting the UK early 2010 when she launches Winter Kate. I was ecstatic to know that I would finally get to meet my idol!

2009 was another whirlwind of a year for Nicole Richie, her beau Joel announced that Harlow would be a big sister as they had a baby boy on the way. Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born September 2009. During Nicole’s pregnancy in 2009 she continued to work on her fashion brand House Of Harlow 1960, designed a maternity range for A pea in the pod, was the face of Asian brand Mercury Duo, opened the Richie-Madden’s children playground and on top of all of that she confirmed that she was busy designing her clothing range Winter Kate which was to be released early 2010.

I met Nicole Richie in February 2010 at Selfridges department store in London. Nervous was an understatement, I was petrified! After years writing about someone who I looked up to I was finally about to meet her for a one on one interview! Not only did I have to say Hi, I actually had to chat with Nicole, I worried would I even be able to speak! Nicole Richie radiates a warmth she has charm, whit and elegance. As soon as we met I was no longer nervous, she was the perfect host amongst her ‘people’ she introduced me to her management who are all also very welcoming and we took pictures on her Blackberry and talked about everything! When our interview was over Nicole slipped off back to her busy schedule. She made the time for one fan which to me ultimately has been a defining moment in my life.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden tied the knot in 2010 and I myself am now engaged and I feel as though I am always one step behind Nicole and although it’s not likely I can have an extravagant wedding the same as Nicole’s I do request one thing – an Elephant! Just like the Richie-Madden’s and I want my elephant to wear a head-piece designed by House Of Harlow 1960 – OK that’s never going to happen but I can dream. That is one of the reasons why I love Nicole Richie for being such a fabulous role model, she provides me with inspiration and guidance she is my muse!

Five years later I am still blogging about Nicole I have a huge admiration for Nicole as a Mother, career woman and most of all genuine person. There are so many celebrities who have huge fan-bases but never take the time to show their appreciation, Nicole does and that is Priceless.
