    Brazilian Blow Out

A good friend turned me onto a new hair straightening method called the Brazilian blow dry and I’m completely inspired to share it with you!

I have curly hair and it can be quite a headache to deal with. If you have curls, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about—hours spent blowdrying and avoiding the rain and humidity. I always thought I could never be one of those girls who just leaves the house without doing her hair… until now.

I always stayed away from relaxers because they damage your hair. The Brazilian is different because it’s non damaging. I found out about it from my friend Hedi a little while ago and I’m never going back!

My stylist Liz at Andy Lecompte Salon in L.A. uses this product with Keratin and heats my hair to seal it in. It takes about an hour and the results last a few months!

My hair is smooth and STRAIGHT!

Now I have the freedom to not have to blow dry my hair every time I wash it. I can go swimming and not have to worry about frizz.

Not to sound cheesy, but I’m so glad to have discovered this and I hope you curly girls find this information useful!

I personally am obsessed with your waves. My hair is naturally straight and I put a whole bunch of products, curl creams, etc to get it wavy. Can you share your secret on how to get your waves?

I’ve a chance to have naturally my hair smooth hihi but i can imagine that it was a problem for you, before. Your hair are amaizing! xx

Hey Nicole! I just signed up to your site! its awesome.
Im one of those girls that has curly hair and as much as I love it at the same time I hate it!
Since I live in Melbourne Australia its going to be a little harder to find someone who can give me a Brazilian blow dry. But I am on a mission now and I’m not going to stop until I find it!!!
      Thanks for the tip
      Keep them coming

Nicole i love the way your loose waves look.
I have been trying to get the look for soooooooo long.
      But nothing works.
I have a chi flat iron, because i read somewhere that’s how you’ve been getting loose waves with a flat iron. Is there anyway you can do a video, or something that describes how you get the waves in your hair.
I would appreciate it so much.
      You’re my idol <3
      Thanx,
      Alyssa :]

i think someone already posted about this but the brazilian treatment has formaldehyde in it, which can cause cancer and is also used in embalming fluid to preserve dead bodies. If you can find anyone with Coppola’s Keratin Complex Treatment that would be a better bet its does exactly the same thing it just has the ingredient aldahyde in it which is an organic compound and in other words safe. So its just food for thought.

      Hi nicole,

FYI – Allure had an article on Brazilian Blow Outs! These products contain Fermaldehyde.
Fermaldehyde causes cancer! It’s not even legal in Brazil anymore but people still tend to use it.
The United States only allows 0.2 percent of fermaldehyde in any produces used in the salon and most of the Brazilian hair straightening uses anywhere from 4.0 percent to 20 percent!!!

I know what you’re talking about! I have curly hair too, and actually did get a straight perm when I was 14, and it made my hair fall-out! I use to have extremely thick hair, it is now 1/2 as thick as it was! I use to hate how thick and curly it was when I was younger, but now miss it so much! :( I definitely learned my lesson. At the same time that I love my curls (it’s easy to just wash/go), I do like it straight sometimes, or just a little wavy, I love your waves Nicole! So I think I would really like to try this hair treatment! To the previous post of using a Keratin based treatment, I think that is what Nicole said she uses? So it should be safe. ;)

I imagine this does not work on nappy black hair

    • mrscharlotte

Hi! I am a swedish hairdresser and a big fan of the brazilian blow dry (+mask), but it can give you cancer. The steams from formaldehyd witch is used to make the hair observe the ceratine can give you cancer. And it says loud and clear on the product lable for both hairdresser och customer to use a mask when using the product. When inhailing the steams it can give you cancer in you upper lung part. Just the messenger..

    • mrscharlotte

PS. It does work on nappu black hair. You just have to have your hairdresser “soften” you hair up.

    • rainefire

off topic…..how do you do your eye make-up? liquid liner?

Omg i’ve got the same problem D:
but… i don’t know if the brazilian blow dry is here in Chile. i just don’t know what to do with the frizz in my hair D:

I’m a hairdresser in Orange County that does the Brazilian Blowout and I just wanted to let you all know it doesn’t have formaldehyde in it. They actually use plant based extracts. That’s why it doesn’t stay straight forever through the ends. Also that’s why the hair is so conditioned after the treatment. There are no harsh fumes, if anything it’s a little like the smell of hair color on your head. This is why the FDA approved this treatment and not the other brazililan straightening.

I have a question. My hair is extreamly curly and I’ve been “streighting” it with natural permanent straightenings, simillar as the japanese one but it doesn’t stay straight but wavy. The thing is that even with this, the hair dosn’t look with a perfect wave and I still have to put some products on so it looks decent. Are you telling me that with the brazilian blowout I’ll just wash my hair and it stays straight? without using any product? just like this?
My mom usually gets a keratin tratment but her hair dosn’t stay just straight (like with the japanese one, but It’s too straight) because she still needs to dry it.
Resuming: i want to have the hair Nicole has in this picture: I’m I gonna get it with the brazilian blowout or with the brazilian blowout and a one hour work with the iron and dryer at home every day??

My mum’s jamaican and as a result i have this mix hair, it’s VERY curly and i’ve been trying for about a year to convince my mum that relaxing treatments can be safe – i’m 18 now but i still respect her opinion, thanks nicole, might give this one a try :) xXx

I just got the BB done two nights ago and I am so happy! My hair is soft shiny and very manageable! I went to Shane Hair Style Color in Sherman Oaks(818-200-8850) and it was so worth it. It was raining yesterday in Burbank where I live and my hair did not get frizzy at all. Thank you Nicole for letting us all know about this great service!

I have done Brazilian Blowdry a few weeks ago. My hair
looked great for a couple of weeks, but now my hair has reverted to normal. It
might be wrong hairdresser or wrong product. I paid £75 and If i would decided
to do it again I’d prefer to pay extra money to make sure make sure quality of
the product is great and hairdresser is qualified to do the treatment. After
all I’d love the treatment to last up to 3 months.

to the person who claims that aldehyde is organic and therefore ‘safe’ please do your research beforehand…aldehyde is not safe – it is simply the difference between formaldehyde and other dangerous chemicals that create formaldehyde when heated. Coppolas products are also controversial for this very reason of stating they are safe to use when they are not.

Is it safe to have a brazillian blowout on my human hair topper?

    • Ginny

just a question because im still not sure, but im really confused. first of all, i have really frizzy curly hair. its not wavy- it seriously curly and i hate it, so i straighten all the time. i hate having to do that constantly- i just want it to stay straight. i want the brazillion blowout so it will stay straight, but im not sure it does that because when i looked it up, it said it will just make it shiny and silky. i really just want straight hair all the time. can somebody please tell me what im getting if i do it?

    • Christina

hi nicole! do you still use this by any chance?
